News & Events
Time has absolutely flown by for the team here at Bailiwick Legal. It has been an eventful and busy year! I wanted to take a moment to wish all the farmers in Western Australia all the best for a successful season as you prepare for harvest.
Many of you will have been aware and involved in our discussions around the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act. There have been some important changes to the laws surrounding Aboriginal Cultural Heritage in WA this year. Following the Premier’s announcement that the Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Act 2021 would be repealed and replaced by an amended Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972, the Government introduced the Aboriginal Heritage Legislation Amendment and Repeal Bill 2023. The Bill has been passed by both Houses of Parliament and is due to come into force in the coming months. I encourage you to follow us on social media to help you stay up-to-date with the changes to the law. Our team is also available to answer any questions you may have on this topic .
Lastly, I am excited to announce we will be adding more locations to our Regional Legal Hot Desk, starting with Bridgetown commencing this month! We are working on our schedule for next year right now and look forward to our visits to the regions next year. This is a great opportunity to speak with one of our lawyers face-to-face about any legal queries you may have. If you would like us to visit your country town, please let us know.
Thank you for your continued support of Bailiwick Legal.
Thank you
Phil Brunner |

Bridgetown Hot Desk Launch |
|
|
We are excited to announce the addition of Bridgetown to our Regional Hot Desk locations starting November this year! Our first Hot Desk dates will be Thursday 23 November and Friday 24 November at the Bridgetwon CRC, 150 Hampton Street, Bridgetown.
Our Regional Hot Desk initiative has been a success so far and clients who have availed themselves of this opportunity to meet with our team at their home town have said they appreciate being able to speak to us locally and face-to-face. We are working on dates for the first half of 2024 as we speak and will announce the dates towards the end of the year. For those in Dalwallinu, Wongan Hills, York, Moora and Dowerin - there will be one more Hotdesk in November for each of these locations to wrap up our visits for 2023. We look forward to meeting more of you in country towns in 2024! |

WA Water Users Coalition Forum
On 18 September Phil and Matilda attended the WA Water Users Coalition Forum in Manjimup to discuss the impact of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage laws on waterways and the proposed changes to our State’s water legislation. The WAWUC does a great deal of advocacy work for landowners in the regions. The Forum provided an opportunity for attendees to discuss the proprietary issues that they are facing as landowners and primary producers and bring those issues to the attention of members of the opposition parties ahead of changes to WA’s Aboriginal Heritage and Water legislation. |

RRR Network
In October Anna and Matilda attended the RRR Network and ANZ annual Cultivate event and sundowner. This year’s event was themed “Overcoming Barriers to Participate and Lead”. The event kicked off with a powerful presentation from the keynote speaker, Natascha Turner, and was then followed by a panel discussion led by Tracey Lefroy, Shire President of Moora.
The RRR Network also launched their Regional Women’s Ambassador Program this year. The program will work in partnership with community RRR women leaders in every region WA to achieve its vision of creating a diverse, strong, connected and influential network of RRR women who strengthen and enrich the lives of each other. We are also excited to announce that our Matilda Lloyd has been named as the RRR Ambassador for the Perth/Metro region. |

Congratulations to the team for defeating Quairading. A huge congratulations also to Cunderdin who had a clean sweep and brought home the cup not only for the Netball but also for the Hockey and Football League and Reserves.

Legal Insight: Wind Farm Projects and the Paperwork – get (the right) advice!
Recently we have seen a significant increase in wind farm proponents exploring locations and seeking to lock farmers into land access agreements and long-term leases without any wind testing before they have a real buyer for the power.
The proponents will invariably offer landowners upfront payments, dangle large annual payments, and even larger rent payments to entice farmers to sign the access and Lease agreements, thus ensuring that they have access to the land should they go ahead with the wind farm project in the future.
