News & Events

Spring has sprung and while we are grateful for the record rainfall in the winter months for the regions, the Bailiwick Legal team is glad to see some warmer sunny days.

It has been a busy few months working on client matters, attending events, and delivering our Succession Planning Done Right workshops.

Below is a summary of what we have been up to and some resources the team hopes will be helpful to you and your business.

Thank you

7 Years, who's counting!

A little over 7 years ago I mentioned to Jess that I was ready to start my own firm.

She could have easily told me to rid my mind of silly notions but instead, she went all in and we have been running Bailiwick together ever since.

Over the years we have had the privilege of working with some incredible people and we can't thank you enough for being part of the journey.

Clients.
Staff.
Partners.
Industry Bodies.
Government.
Even other lawyers.

I won't sugarcoat it. Running a business is hard but it is made so much more enjoyable when you are surrounded by a great team.

Thanks to the lockdown in July when our birthday ticked over it was a quiet celebration at home which suited us fine.

I have to ask - where might that silly notion whirring around your head right now take you in 7 years?
Sporting Success!

The whole Bailiwick team headed up to Moora last month to support the Moora Mavericks and our very own Richard Dewar during Farmer Appreciation Round

Now the season has come to an end, we are delighted that the Moora Mavericks AFL Reserve team and Hockey teams won their Grand Finals, as did the Cunderdin Magpies League team.

Supporting rural and regional Western Australia is our priority and this includes local sports teams that are the heart of regional towns.

Well done to all the teams involved – it was a great season, and we were proud to be part of it.
Dowerin Field Days

Bailiwick Legal returned to Dowerin for the annual GWN7 Machinery Field Days, together with WAFarmers and fellow sponsors.

After the disappointment of the event being canceled in 2020 due to COVID-19, the team was excited to attend and network with other exhibitors and attendees.

The weather and the turnout was fantastic. We can’t wait to be back next year!
Jokes on Phil!

Phil and the Bailiwick team attended the Country Women’s Association of WA State Conference in July at Optus Stadium where Phil entertained guests with some of his best gags alongside an update on legal projects he has been working on with the CWA.

We have been involved with CWA in some capacity or other for a number of years and formalised that relationship in recent years to further support the excellent work they do.

As always this was a great event to network with people who are as equally passionate about our regions as we are.
Out and about...

The team hasn't sat still this year!

Tourism Council WA Business Sustainability Seminars
Danielle presented at the Perth function and via video link to the Geraldton event focusing on agency agreements and terms and conditions.

World of Opportunity
Fantastic panel presented by the RRR Network. The team heard from women who have challenged the status quo including the Honourable Mia Davies.
WAFarmers Country Health Forum
Danielle attended WAFarmers’ Country Health Forum in Albany and Esperance to discuss specialist health in the regions – what’s available and what’s not. Danielle discussed the importance of powers of attorney, powers of guardianship, and advanced health directives, and confirmed Bailiwick Legal's ability to assist despite not being principally located in these regions.

Tourism Council WA Finals Fever
On 24 September we attended Aloft Hotels for the TCWA Finals Fever where the finalists for the Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards were announced. Bailiwick Legal is a proud sponsor of TCWA and this year is sponsoring the 3 - 3.5 Star Accommodation category. We look forward to the upcoming Gala Dinner where the winners will be announced and then go on to represent WA in the Qantas Australian Tourism Awards next year.
Congratulations!

Congratulations to Mikhail and Matilda who will complete their uni degrees this year.

Mikhail has commenced his Practical Legal Training at the College of Law this week and Matilda is due to finish in November and commence her Practical Legal Training in December.

Both have been vibrant additions to the Bailiwick team!

We trust they enjoyed celebrating at their final Law Ball - they sure looked the part!

High Court Decides on Workpac v Rossato

On the 4th August 2021, the High Court unanimously overturned the Full Court of the Federal Court of Australia's decision in Workpac Pty Ltd V Rossato (2020).

We explore what this means for employers who employ casual workers.

National Farm Safety

Because we are in the business of risk mitigation as lawyers, farm safety is on our minds all year round.

It should be on yours too.

The WA Government's Work Health and Safety Bill — which introduced industrial manslaughter as a crime — passed through the Upper House last October after a lengthy debate.

During National Farm Safety Week in July, Phil created this video to help you understand how this will impact your farm or tourism business.

Coming up for Bailiwick Legal...

The Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards are on!

We will be at the Crown Perth in November as Tourism Council WA announces the winners in the 2021 Perth Airport WA Tourism Awards.

Women and girls are disadvantaged in this pandemic, a problem aggravated in rural areas.

Rural women, with a crucial role in agriculture, food security and nutrition, already face struggles in their daily lives.

We are joining the RRR Network on the 15th October at the Windsor in South Perth to celebrate International Day of Rural Women.

See what our clients are saying...
Always available and really understood our Industry and how the law applied to us specifically. Very clear with explaining what was going to happen, when and explaining our options.
