News & Events

And just like that we are in November and wondering where the year has gone and planning for the end of year festivities!

Since I last wrote to you we have been very busy both in and out of the office assisting clients across the State.

As we head into summer our farming clients are finishing harvest and tourism clients are preparing themselves for the summer holidays!

Thank you
Phil Brunner

International Day of Rural Women – On 15 October 2021, Bailiwick Legal attended The Rural, Regional, Remote Women’s Network of Western Australia sundowner at the Windsor Hotel to celebrate the crucial role that rural women play in WA.

On 13 October, Jess and Danielle attended the Parmelia Hilton for WITH’s launch of its inaugural event, WITH-INSIGHTS.

The night commenced with a panel discussion from leaders in the tourism and hospitality sector, followed by networking, drinks and canapes.

Great night with the speakers Meg Coffey, Kelly Henderson & Dean Massie sharing their knowledge, insights and tips.
The GOAL of the WITH-INSIGHTS event series

"To deliver a contemporary approach to mentoring, through a series of events, focused on finding inspiration in each other’s stories. Through understanding that the sharing of experiences is fundamental to our learning and development, we will be hearing from industry leaders, sharing their insights. Events will be targeted at all levels of our industry – from those just starting out, to those leading in their fields. WITH Insights will deliver on one of our key values - Inspiration".

Legal Insights

Should you open the Farm Gate to a Mining or Oil & Gas Company?

Over the last few years, there has been a noticeable increase in mineral exploration in Western Australia, particularly within the southwest region.

So, when someone out of the blue turns up at your door offering a deal for access rights, it is in your interest to seek legal advice. At Bailiwick Legal, we have assisted many landowners and farm businesses in such circumstances.

Social Media Users Beware:

Who is responsible for publications on social media?

In September 2021, the High Court held in  Fairfax Media Publications Pty Ltd v Voller; N ationwide News Pty Limited v Voller Australian News Channel Pty Ltd v Voller (Voller) that media outlets may be held accountable for comments made by third party users on their Facebook pages as publishers.

By extension, it is foreseeable that companies and organisations may now be held to be liable in defamation for comments that are made by third parties on their social media platforms.
Coming up for Bailiwick Legal...
We will be celebrating Ag Day and WAFarmers new office on the 19th November. What will your #AgVenture be?
On the 24th of November, Bailiwick Legal's team is going down to Margaret River for the Tourism Connect industry sundowner organised by Tourism Council WA.
The annual TCWA Xmas Tipple is coming up in Burswood on the 10th of December. Always a highlight of the Christmas party calendar for the Bailiwick team.
See what our clients are saying...
Always available and really understood our Industry and how the law applied to us specifically. Very clear with explaining what was going to happen, when and explaining our options.
